CAR PORTS AND THEIR USES…

We stumbled across an extremely well written piece of text the other day regarding car ports. When we sell them, strangely enough our customers want to use them to protect their cars from the great British elements. You may well have noticed that there have been a large number of elements just lately, mainly of the very wet and windy variety. We have no problem with people wishing to put cars under our car ports as the name would imply that there is a link between the two.

Furthermore, they do a very good job of protecting the car and at a fraction of the cost of a brick or concrete garage and the mere fact that the only have one side and normally no ends does not make a lot of difference on the car protection front. We have already proved over the last couple of years that they will keep a car frost free in severe weather while the second car on the drive will need significant thawing out just to gain entry to it.

So in a nutshell, this is what our customers use them for. The aforementioned article suggested that the main use was for family picnics and barbeques. It suggested dragging the car out from under the car port and putting the picnic table up to keep the family safe. Safe from what? The wasps will still attack you and the flies will still end up in your beer cans so where is the safety in that? Ok, you will stay dry if it rains. As for lighting the BBQ up under a car port, we are of the opinion that this is not a safe thing to do at all. Anyway every one knows that a BBQ is far more fun when you are half way through and the heavens open!

Brackets Included

As reported in our last blog, Prior Canopies can now provide GRP brackets in various styles (corbel, gallows etc.). Don’t forget though, that many of our canopies come with brackets included or have dedicated decor legs available to order with the canopy.

In short, the following President canopies all have a choice of decor legs available to order when ordering the canopy. Clarendon, Cottage, Countess, Duchess, Kensington, Princess, Royale, Tudor and Windsor. In the Senator range the Cheltenham, Carisbrooke, Tamworth, Warwick, Ripley, Rockingham, Ilkley, Sherbourne and Berkley canopies all come with brackets included or are fully moulded including the brackets. The Stafford, Elsdon and Castledene canopies do not include brackets, but can be ordered at the same time as the canopy to avoid delivery charges. Both the Minster and Westwood canopies in the Emperor range come with brackets as part of the kit.

GRP Brackets Now Available

Prior Canopies have now added a new range – GRP Brackets.

The GRP corbel brackets are available in a variety of styles and sizes. They are available in either white or brown.

We have had many enquiries for GRP brackets in the past and though we can supply them, we have not had them available for sale on our website – until now.

The decorative brackets have many uses, such as fitting underneath a door canopy, using as a bow window gallows brackets, or to hide an unsightly metal supporting bracket.

DIY DOOR CANOPIES

Our range of over door canopies work in much the same way as something like a DIY conservatory. You order them on line, we deliver to you quickly and everything is in the box to enable you to do a DIY fitting.

As mentioned in the last post, they are easy to fit and two people should manage to fit on in a few hours. The same is true of our range of ornamental shutters. These are simplicity its self to fit to your property and they are designed to last for many years without anything needing to be done to them.

Our car ports will require a little more skill, particularly the cantilever variety but yet again with the right equipment this is something that can be fitted by most people. For those of you with good bricklaying skills then the garden rooms should not present too much of a challenge. Alternatively you could always ask your local builder to erect one for you. The one thing that cannot be beaten is the prices that you will find here at Prior Canopies!

The great thing about our canopies is not just the low low price and the quality of the products but also the fact that they are very easy to fit. In many cases it is just a case of marking out the positions of the gallows brackets and wall plate, drilling and plugging the holes and then fitting the canopy. Alway best to have two of you doing it but the more the merrier! Flashing the canopy in is also simple so you will have no problems fitting one.
